I am already scheduling some of our Hebrew language events for next year around San Diego’s Hagiga be’Ivrit. I am excited to see new acknowledgement of the importance of Hebrew language as a meaningful part of our shared Jewish identity. Although most of our Hebrew school students do not have a Hebrew/Israeli background at home, we should welcome all to Hebrew! Anyone who wishes can learn, not only to recite blessings by rote, but also to know what they mean, and even to speak a little Hebrew, confidently, comprehensibly, continuously AND creatively. I can’t wait for our students to be a part of the party!
